Walt Maddox outlines policies to improve workforce development

FLORENCE, Ala. – Bringing Alabama up from having one of the lowest workforce participation rates in the country will take detailed policies. That’s what the democratic nominee for governor told the Alabama Democratic Caucus in his first public appearance since election day.

Walt Maddox addressed the crowd at the Alabama Pro-Growth Policy Conference in the Shoals.

“Things that have been broken for too long are going to begin to get addressed,” he told the crowd.

Maddox says workforce development is the greatest challenge facing the state’s economic development. But local political leaders and others are not at the conference to hear about the problems, but how to fix them.

“It includes expanding the number of apprenticeship opportunities and scholarships across the state,” Maddox listed. “It means moving or having the workforce development academies, craft training academies, in all seven workforce development areas of the state.”

Maddox said they must pass the Alabama Education Lottery and laid out plans to expand healthcare and improve education.
