Walt Maddox officially running for governor

Tuscaloosa’s mayor is now officially running for Alabama governor.

Walt Maddox announced today he is entering the race to become the Yellowhammer State’s next governor.

Citing a crisis in leadership in Montgomery and consistently low scores for Alabama in every quality of life indicator, the democratic mayor has decided to seek the highest office in the state.

As we’ve reported, Maddox previously formed a political committee to explore a run for governor in June.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb is also running for the Democratic nomination.

Maddox joins a crowded field that includes Gov. Kay Ivey who, at $1.24 million, has raised the most money of all the gubernatorial candidates, reports AL.com. Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle has also topped $1 million in the race.
