Maddox pitches education lottery, expanding Medicaid

Walt Maddox doesn’t want to do too much if elected governor of Alabama.

Just rebuild the state’s decades old decaying infrastructure, fund education with an emphasis on workforce development to better prepare young Alabamians for good-paying jobs and solve the “catastrophe” that is mental health care, to name a few.

The four-term Tuscaloosa mayor stopped by the Cullman County Democrats meeting Thursday to talk about the challenges facing the state and how he would address them if elected. Primaries will be June 5, with a primary runoff scheduled for July 17 and the general election Nov. 6.

He faces a local gubernatorial candidate in James Fields who is also running as Democrat, former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb, Jason Childs, Chris Countryman and Anthony White.
