Maddox faces first challenger in 12 years

For the first time in 12 years, Tuscaloosa voters will have a choice in the mayor’s race.

Walt Maddox, Tuscaloosa’s mayor since 2005, is relying on his record and accomplishments since taking office as reasons why he deserves a fourth term as the city’s highest executive officer.

Stepfon “Step” Lewis, an entrepreneur and political newcomer, has mounted his campaign on a desire to improve the quality of life in west Tuscaloosa through economic and residential growth as a means to equalize opportunities across the city.

The city of Tuscaloosa’s municipal election is Tuesday. Polls will be open across the city’s seven districts from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
