City of Tuscaloosa, Faith-Based Community Partner for A Day of Hope

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The City of Tuscaloosa and the Hope Initiative will host the second annual A Day of Hope Saturday, Oct. 3, with projects starting Saturday, Sept. 26 and continuing through the week.

A Day of Hope is an event born out of the Hope Initiative, a partnership established in 2009 to spark long-term improvements in areas of the City with high crime rates.

“The Hope Initiative is a powerful partnership between the City of Tuscaloosa and the faith-based community that offers a helping hand to citizens who need it most,” said Tuscaloosa Mayor Walter Maddox. “A Day of Hope highlights the compassion of Tuscaloosa residents and improves the quality of life in our community.”

More than 50 high-value service projects have been planned. Citizens and church groups are asked to register for projects at http://www.tuscaloosahope.com.

“We want to engage the community to complete as many ‘high value’ service projects as possible. Some examples include building a handicap ramp for a disabled person, replacing a broken door for a widow, or updating a playground in an apartment community. These are simple projects for churches, but game changers for the people in these communities.” said Eric Boykin, director of the Hope Initiative.
