ORANGE BEACH, Ala (WPMI) — Democratic Gubernatorial nominee Walt Maddox spoke with NBC 15 about a number of topics during his trip to Orange Beach Friday afternoon.
Maddox made an appearance at the Alabama Association of School Boards forum to talk about his support for the education lottery and plans to improve education throughout the State, if elected.
“I’m as excited as I’ve ever been. Because what we’ve seen is the number of contributors to our campaign, individual contributors, will be over a thousand by the end of this week. That’s greater than anybody that’s run for Governor,” said Maddox.
Both Maddox, who is the current Tuscaloosa Mayor, and incumbent Governor Kay Ivey dominated in last week’s primary to win their nominations for Alabama Governor.
However, the numbers show it could be an uphill battle for Maddox come November.
Only a fourth of Alabama voters turned out but Republicans outvoted Democrats 2 to 1.
Governor Ivey’s numbers surpassed all Democratic nominees combined.
